Training
Adult volunteers are the key to the success of the Girl Scout Movement. Trained volunteers who understand the Girl Scout leadership development program provide girls with fun, safe, and quality experiences, as well as an opportunity to develop into successful leaders. All volunteers are required to attend training; it is recommended that training be completed within four months after the first day of appointment to a volunteer position. Click here to view the current training sessions online. You can also register by mail or fax. This training ensures that adult volunteers are provided with the necessary knowledge, skills, and understanding for the position they have agreed to perform. To accommodate the busy lives and schedules of volunteers, this training is available as a classroom session or as a self study.
Training Opportunities
GSUSA Volunteer Orientation
The new online GSUSA Volunteer Orientation (in both English and Spanish) is the first required, close-up, introductory view of the Girl Scout organization for new volunteers. The program content is standardized with consistent national Girl Scout messages and information. See what new volunteers around the country are learning about Girl Scouts by going online to http://training.girlscouts.org. When you log on, please use the assigned password: discover. If you are volunteering as a leader, be sure to access the Learning Log and use orientation@girlscoutsrv.org. It takes about 25-45 minutes to complete. To participate in this online training, you must have a high-speed internet connection, Flash 8 or 9, a sound card, and speakers. Also, be sure to disable your pop up blocker.
Please note: The Volunteer Orientation session and learning log sites are created and maintained by Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA) not River Valleys. If you are having problems accessing the orientation, please contact GSUSA directly at 800-GSUSA 4U (800-478-7248).
