Why Girl Scouts?
As the world's preeminent organization for girls, Girl Scouts is uniquely qualified to help girls reach their full potential. Girl Scouts provides a challenging and supportive program where girls can develop skills for success in the real world. Girl Scouts of all ages have an opportunity to demonstrate leadership, build character, form lifelong relationships, and give back to their communities. In Girl Scouts, girls discover the fun, friendship, and power of girls together.
Leadership
Whether in business, sports, government, science, education, or the arts, Girl Scouting launches leaders in all fields. A recent national poll of more than 2,000 women found that nearly 2/3 of women of professional achievement had been Girl Scouts in their youth, compared with 41% of women overall. The great majority of Girl Scout alumnae credited their Girl Scout experience with later success.
Character
Character, conduct, and community service count in Girl Scouting. From collecting food and blankets to building houses for the homeless, from literacy projects to neighborhood clean-ups, Girl Scouts of all ages conduct a wide variety of character-building service projects in our community.
Belonging
Girl Scouts is for every girl, everywhere. Our program provides a place for girls from all backgrounds to stretch their limits, take healthy risks, and just "be themselves." Through events and activities, Girl Scouting promotes racial/ethnic pride and respect and facilitates friendships across cultures and communities. Girl Scouts are members of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts—an international organization that provides program and travel opportunities to encourage cross-cultural understanding.
