The guidelines below should assist you in ensuring that our communications speak with one voice and build the Girl Scout image. We have also developed suggested Web guidelines to help you if you are developing a service unit or troop site. Please read guidelines before downloading logo. Symbol and Logotype Use
| The Girl Scout service mark is composed of two parts: the symbol (the Trefoil) and the logotype (the words "Girl Scouts," along with the registration mark). Both parts of the service mark must be used together. The preferred use is the horizontal service mark (Figure 1), but when space limitations dictate a more compact version, use the "stacked" service mark (Figure 2).
The service mark may never be redrawn, reproportioned, or modified in any way. The logotype must always be in the same proportion to the symbol. Pulling the symbol apart from the logotype and using it as a design element is not acceptable. The minimum size for the service mark is 1 1/16" in length (Figure 3), which includes the length of the symbol, the logotype, and the registration mark for the horizontal version of the service mark, and 3/4" in length (Figure 4) for the stacked version of the service mark. The service mark will have the greatest impact when sufficient "airspace" is left around it. This draws attention to the service mark and provides a good setting for it. A minimum airspace of one-third the width of the symbol must be allowed on all sides (see Figure 5). Allow more than one-third airspace wherever possible. If space is limited, reduce the size of the service mark rather than crowd it. In order to insure a quality mark, do not shade or screen the service mark or place the mark over a complicated pattern or photograph. The preferred color for the service mark is the new Girl Scout green (Pantone 334). A black service mark is also acceptable. The preferred two-color version is a green symbol and a blue (Pantone Coated 541) logotype. When printing on a dark background, the service mark must always reverse out. When printing materials in two colors other than green or black, the service mark should always be printed in the darkest color. One color printing in any color is acceptable. |

Tagline Use
Girl Scouts. Where Girls Grow Strong. is the GSUSA-approved tagline. The tagline wording must never be altered or substituted with another phrase. The "lockup" (Figures 6-7) is the proper arrangement when the tagline is used in conjunction with the service mark. Always use the provided artwork for the lockup. All components of the lockup—the symbol, the logotype, and the tagline—must be in the same color. Refer to service mark guidelines for appropriate colors. When in the lockup, the tagline must include the "SM". The tagline may be used as a separate, definitive element. When it is, it should read: Girl Scouts. Where Girls Grow Strong. When used as a separate element, the tagline may be in another typeface or color (Figure 8), and can be placed in any location on the page. The first letter of each word must be capitalized. When used as a separate element, the tagline must have an "SM" at the baseline. When referring to the tagline in body copy, the copy should read: Girl Scouts. Where Girls Grow Strong. The first letter of each word must be capitalized and the entire tagline italicized (Figure 9). When writing the service mark as a phrase, always place a period between "Girl Scouts" and "Where Girls Grow Strong." No service mark (SM) indication is needed. |

Use of the Service Mark with Other Logos
| When placing the service mark near another logo, be sure to use the version which is closest in size and shape to that of the other logo (Figure 10). The service marks should be placed side by side and not one above the other. | Figure 10 |
Use of Taglines in Other Languages
| The tagline must always say "Girl Scouts. Where Girls Grow Strong." Never replace the tagline in English in the lockup with the tagline in another language. It must always be used as a separate element without the service mark (Figure 11). Use the service mark when used as a separate element but not when used in body copy. In body copy, italicize where possible. | Figure 11 Girl Scouts. Donde Las Niñas Se Fortalecen. |
